Brandname: CONTRAVE®

Generic name: Not available, since CONTRAVE® has not been approved by FDA yet. Generic versions of medications (‘generic’ means the same chemical compound, but another trade name and manufacturer) are available after the brand name med’s patents expire.

Active ingredients: Bupropion + Naltrexone. Bupropion (antidepressant), Naltrexone (opioid addiction treatment). CONTRAVE ® is being developed as a sustained-release formulation medication. Contrave diet pill’s active ingredients have been effectively used for more than two decades as separate drugs.

Recommended dosage: 8 mg Naltrexone / 90 mg Bupropion tabs twice a day

Mechanism of action: affecting hypothalamus, the central nervous system. The exact mechanism is still kept in secret.

Current status: New Drug Application (NDA) at FDA. On 7th of December Contrave received a nod from the Advisory Committee. The Final decision will be made on 31th of March, 2011.

Results: average weight loss results are 11-22 Lbs per month.
